The xx - Islands
The mechanical, almost menacing bass Islands opens with gives no indication of the beauty ahead. A softly played electric guitar paves the way for the careful vocals and the eventual introduction of a beat. Adding layer upon layer this simple and softly beautiful song builds and never feels complicated. The xx has given the world another worthy love song.

Bremen - One Day
Along with the mixing sounds and beats there are some songs that come complete with a vision. One Day is a bright and warm Sunday. Opening with tight and inoffensive beats soon the vocals wash in like a wave. Slightly high pitched but never annoying, the Japanese vocals are a delight and perfectly paced. By the time you are tempted to try singing along the vocals retreat leaving simple beats and a guitar underneath some smooth mixed vocal samples.

FC Kahuna - Hayling
Atmospheric and undeniably unique, Hayling is a track elegant in its simplicity and calming lyrics. A track that is much better experienced than described, plug in some good headphones, hit play and close your eyes.

VAST - Touched
The acoustic guitar opening gives you little indication of the musical tour de force that awaits. That initial layer is added to by soft male vocals and some strangely hunting choir girls. It’s when the drums hit and the intensity of the songs shifts up a gear that the full power of this song is realized. Touched is an epic love song that demands attention.

Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye
Lazy Eye wants to takes its place alongside the songs of Sonic Youth and the Smashing Pumpkins and achieves just that. The lazy slightly grunge vocals blurt out cryptic lyrics that rest beautifully on the guitars which become as distorted as the vocals when both explode into noise at the peak of the song. This is as fine as indie rock gets.
